Take 5 minutes for a Coach

Grassroots coaches donate many hours of their time every season to run our sports teams. But just five minutes of your time at www.sparc.org.nz/volunteers is enough to thank a coach with a nomination in the SPARC Volunteer Coach Awards.

“You don’t have to be a Henry, Herbert or Tonks to be a great coach” says SPARC Chief Executive Peter Miskimmin. “Volunteer coaches don’t often make the headlines but they are just as important. These wonderful people are directly involved with making sport rewarding and fun for hundreds of thousands of kiwis. They help communities connect through grassroots sport, they get the best out of us, and they nurture tomorrow’s stars. They deserve our respect and thanks”
Every nominated coach gets a letter of thanks and their name goes into a draw to win one of 17 $100 sports vouchers. Three nominated coaches are chosen as regional award winners and receive a generous supply of Wattie’s product and coaching apparel from SPARC. One regional award winner also receives a coach development opportunity from SPARC.

In addition in Waitakere every nominated coach gets to attend a free awards breakfast on Wednesday 20 October to celebrate and acknowledge all the great work our volunteer coaches do.

The SPARC Volunteer Coach of the Year awards are open to all non-paid, volunteer coaches including club coaches, school coaches and anyone coaching at a non-representative level.

There are three categories:

- Student (student coach who attends intermediate or high school)
- General (coaching for a while but not yet a lifetime)
- Lifetime (coaching for 25 years or more)
