First Aid for the 2008 Polocrosse Season.

Anna Looby and Kim Thompson are available to supply first aid at carnivals.
The cost will be $100 per weekend. Clubs please supply ice in a suitable container and if possible a four-wheeler or transport i.e. ute.
Bookings are essential and two weeks notice is required.

Jarrod Richardson
Jarrod is fourteen years old.  He plays for the Counties club and has been playing Polocrosse for two years.  He attends Tuakau College.  His hobbies are rugby, soccer and watching TV.  He was part of the team which won the Juniors tournament for Waikato.  He would like to go to the Polocrosse World Cup and one of his idols is Russell Tye (Putaruru-Tirau).

Sam Cunningham – Vice Captain
Sam is aged fifteen.  He attends Feilding Agricultural High School.  He has been playing Polocrosse for six years.  he currently plays Polocrosse for Manawatū/Rangitikei.  His hobbies are horse riding, farm work , hunting and Polocrosse.  He has represented New Zealand Polocrosse in the following teams;  2005 Australasian President Selection, 2007 New Zealand Junior team, 2008 New Zealand Junior team and was awarded the Queensland Polocrosse scholarship in 2007.  He has travelled to Australia twice.  His goals are;  to represent New Zealand at the World Cup in the future, complete a whole polocrosse season without falling off once, make the under 21 team (the intermediates).  His family are his Mum Teresa, his Dad Dean and his brother Tom.  Home is ‘Scrubdale’, Turakina Valley Road, RD2, Hunterville.

Florence Cumming - Captain
Florence is sixteen years old.  She attends Pinehurst College and has been playing Polocrosse for seven years for Counties club.  She also plays netball, soccer, polocrosse and lacrosse.  Her hobbies are hunting, reading, swimming and horse riding.  She has represented New Zealand in the following teams;  Australian President Selection,  the 2007 New Zealand Junior team and the recipient of the New South Wales Scholarship in 2007 and the 2008 New Zealand Junior team.  In 2005, against a number of odds,  her Waikato Junior all female team of only five players won the National Junior Championship held at the Manunui Grounds in Taumarunui. In 2007 at the National Colts and Juniors Championships at Otorohanga, she won best Number One and best pony with China.  In 2008 at the National Colts and Junior Championships in Turangi she won best Number One and best pony with Target.  Her team Waikato won the National Juniors competition and she captained the team.  Her mentor is her horse, China.  Green is her favourite colour and lamingtons are her favourite food.  She has visited Australia, Japan and Fiji.  Her goals are to be accepted in to the Army and graduate and to make the Under 21 polocrosse team.

Carey Peina-Cornelius
Carey is fourteen and attends Feilding Agricultural High School.  He enjoys playing rugby, tennis, hockey, polocrosse.  His hobbies are; pig hunting and eating.  This is his first season playing Polocrosse, and is currently playing for the Kakatahi club, Wanganui.  He has also managed to be named best Number one in the division he played at the National Colts and Juniors competition in Turangi in 2008.  His family consists of Mum Nicky, Dad Paddy and sister Caitlin.  He lives on Erewhon Station, Taihape.  His idols are his Dad Paddy and Russell Tye.  His horses are Muddy and Playful and his goal in life is to have fun!

Kyla Hill
Kyla is fourteen years old and plays for Te Mata.  She attends Waikato Diocesan School for Girls.  She has been playing Polocrosse for seven nearly eight years.  she plays hockey and is in her school’s 2nd XI hockey team and has represented Waikato.  She is the other recipient of this year’s New South Wales Polocrosse Scholarship.  In 2005, against a number of odds,  her Waikato Junior all female team of only five players won the National Junior Championship held at the Manunui Grounds in Taumarunui. She was also a member of the New Zealand Junior Development Squad in 2007.  In 2008 at the National Colts and Juniors Championships she won best Number Three and her Waikato team won the Junior competition.  Her parents Sue Gower and Shane Hill and her step Dad Dean Gower are her mentors.  She has also visited  South Africa and Australia.  She also has a younger sister Tara Gower and a younger brother Jesse Hill.  Her goal is to some day be a member of the New Zealand World Cup squad.

Peter John Tamaikoha (PJ)  Dempsey

Peter John Tamaikoha Dempsey is fifteen years old.  He attends Tongariro School as a year 11 student and  loves playing polocrosse, basketball, touch and rugby league.  His hobbies include pig hunting, fishing, eating, sleeping, running, horse riding, stage challenge and  kapa haka.
PJ has been playing Polocrosse for the Tūwharetoa Development Squad for five years.  He was in the
New Zealand Junior Team 2007, The Presidents Selection Team 2008 and the recipient of a NSW Polocrosse Scholarship in 2008.    A big thank you to   whanau and the Tūwharetoa Polocrosse Development Squad, for all of your awhi and support!!!  His horses include Ladyhawke, Mack, Hatu Patu, Rusty and Mud.  His goal is to some day beat the Australians at polocrosse!

Taumaihiorongo Duff Marshall
I am thirteen years old.  I go to Tongariro School in Turangi.  I have been playing Polocrosse for five years for the Tūwharetoa Polocrosse Development Squad.  I enjoy playing with my cousins and on my horses Summer, Casper and Mini T.  I played for the New Zealand Juniors last year and this year.  I was named Best Overall Junior for our club and I could not have done this without my whanau.  My hobbies are pig hunting and riding my horse and one day I will beat the Aussies at Polocrosse!

Daniellle Looby
Danielle is sixteen years old and is a sixth former at Taumarunui High School.  She has been playing Polocrosse for about nine years.  One of the highlights of this was when she made the New Zealand Development Squad playing in Otorohanga.  She went to Queensland for 5 months to play Polocrosse in 2006.  She enjoys riding her Mum’s horse Chinook.  Her hobbies include outdoor education – kayaking, snow boarding and skiing, as well as horse riding and polocrosse.  Her biggest achievement so far since she has been playing Polocrosse has been her selection in this team the New Zealand Junior Selection team’s tour to Maitland, New South Wales, 2008.  One day she would like to make it in to the New Zealand World Cup team.

Paddy Cornelius
Paddy is the Coach of the New Zealand Junior Selection team in its tour to Maitland, New South Wales.  He has been playing polocrosse for thirty years.  The clubs he has played for include Wanganui, Kakatahi, Kaitieke and Te Mata.  He has been a representative of all of these clubs at national level and has represented New Zealand against New South Wales in 1999 and against South Africa in 2004.  he was a New Zealand Selector in 2005 and has played for Maxville Club, Australia in 1992, 1994 and has played for the Dunedoo Club in Australia in 1995.  his hobbies include rugby league, pig hunting and polocrosse.   He has been involved in sheep and beef farming all his life and has spent ten years shearing.  He is currently the manager of Erewhon Station, Taihape.  He is supported by his wife Niki along with his son Carey and daughter Caitlin.  He wishes his team all the best in New South Wales and is looking forward to a rewarding tour.

Miriama Prentice
Miriama is the Manager of the New Zealand Junior Polocrosse Team.   She is currently on study leave to complete her Masters Degree.  She leads an extremely busy life balancing whanau, studies, kura responsibilities and supporting our Tuwharetoa Polocrosse Club.  She is Deputy Principal of our local Kura (school), Te Kura o Hīrangi and enjoys working with our youth and the many rewards and challenges this brings.  She is looking forward to a wonderful tour and is sure that along with our whanau support and expert coaching and mentoring provided by Paddy, wife Nicky and the many personnel surrounding the team, they are poised ready for success in New South Wales.  She thanks the parents for their help so far and looks forward to the next two practices before they leave on July 9th.
11 Whanau Support
The whanau support adds a caring and much appreciated aspect to this tour.  The support team include range from cousins to parents and even a grandmother.  They are; Alastair Cumming, Kerri Duff, Peter and Dorothy Dempsey, Nicky Cornelius, Danielle and Cilla Kenny and Angel Duff.  The majority of these people hail from the Tuwharetoa Polocrosse Development Squad and have been at every Juniors’ practice and the momentous fund raiser at the Cornelius’ Erewhon station dagging almost 10,000 ewes!  Thank you whanau and we look forward to a wonderful experience with you all!
