ACC – FOR PLAYERS TRAVELLING OVERSEAS:
Whilst New Zealand ACC appears to provide a comprehensive cover for overseas players whilst they are in New Zealand – see below, it appears that our players are not so lucky while they are overseas. New Zealand ACC will cover your medical expenses upon return to New Zealand (for an accident overseas) if you were resident in New Zealand for the six months prior to traveling overseas, and so long as you were not overseas for more than six months. ACC still advises you to take out adequate travel insurance before traveling overseas to cover you while you are away. You need to be sure that the travel insurance that you take out covers you for the things you need, as many don’t.
New Zealand Polocrosse Council Inc., as per Rule 9.3, accepts no responsibility for insurance of players, coaches and managers, playing or traveling overseas with National teams.
New Zealand Polocrosse is still confirming what cover players have if they are affiliated to Clubs overseas whilst they are playing.

From ACC - ACC cover for visiting Polocrosse players.
Yes, all people who are injured by accident within New Zealand are eligible for cover by ACC, regardless of their nationality or immigration status. This includes accidents at home, on the sports field, in a motor vehicle, or at work.  Any visiting sports players do not have to prove that they are registered to play here - they will be treated by ACC as general visitors, even if their injury should occur while they are playing.
Having 'cover' means that that ACC will contribute to their treatment and any necessary rehabilitation, while they continue to remain in New Zealand. ACC is a no-fault scheme, so it does not matter who appears to have 'caused' the accident in which they are injured, and ACC does not have to wait for the outcome of any court proceedings before providing assistance.
However, ACC does not cover any health conditions that arise for other reasons, such as illness or disease.
Further, ACC can't help with any other losses they may incur if they are injured, such as missed flights or lost income if they can't go back to work in their homeland.  It is expected that their regular travel insurance will cover such needs.
ACC strongly recommends that all visitors to New Zealand have full and appropriate travel insurance for the duration of their stay here.
There is more information which may interest you, on ACC's website,  www.acc.co.nz , under  'Claims and Care/ Getting Help from ACC'.
For further sports-related information, please visit the ACC website's  'Injury Prevention' section.
