40th anniversary Kaitieke Club

NSW make it 2 from 2 as once again they go head to head with the Kiwis at Kaitieke Domain.

Saturday test got off to a brilliant start for the Aussie visitors who were determined to better their previous weekend’s results. Four sharp goals from April Leggett (NSW) answered by only one from Nadine Dempster had the Aussie camp in an uproar! For the rest of the game, the NSW men in particular dominated their Kiwi counterparts.

Final score NSW 21 – NZ -17.

Sunday saw Sarah Holmes in the No 1 position for the NZ ladies put the first ball through the sticks to the delight of the crowd! NSW answered back in nearly every chukka and despite some thrilling action -especially from the NZ girls in centre field -who actually won three of their chukkas, they were unable to keep NSW under control.

Final score NSW -24 NZ 17

Ken Malcolm life member of Kaitieke Club presented the trophies to the two teams.

  • Best No 1 Mitchell Anderson - NSW
  • Best No 2 Laura Dempster NZ
  • Best No 3 Scott Jones NSW
  • Best Horse and Rider Combination Mitchell Anderson riding Lawrence Tye’s Moose.

As part of the weekend celebrations Kaitieke hosted the Veterans competition which was won by the Kakatahi chukka of Paddy Cornelius, Stephen Marshall and included visitor Arch Anderson (coach of the NSW under 21 team).

Kaitieke opened their club rooms after the weekend games and from all accounts a very good time was had by all with the Aussie visitors enjoying the hospitality of their Kiwi hosts.
